Kampung Sempalit

Kampung Sempalit is one of the largest village in Raub, Pahang, MALAYSIA.  (Geographical coordinates are 3° 49' 33'' North, 101° 55' 8'' East )

This village was established as part of the “Briggs Plan” during the period of Emergency in Malaya, a few years after World War II.  New villages were formed to prevent the communists from obtaining food and supplies from people living near the forests, which the communists used as their base of operations. The British built semi-detached wooden houses in a linear pattern, along roads and alleys of this village.

Raub

Raub is both a town and district in Pahang, Malaysia. It is one of the oldest towns in Pahang and it started as a gold mine settlement in the 1800’s

According to the history, this mining center was named Raub after a group of miners  found that for every "dulang" of sand there was a “hand scoop” (raup) of gold. Thus, the town and the district derived their name from the Malay word raup which means "hand scoop".

Raub’s colonial past is evident in the fine old buildings scattered around the town. The Police Station is probably one of the oldest British Style building in Malaysia. It was built in 1905.

Most of the places of interest around Raub are waterfalls, among them Jeram Besu, Lata Jarum and Lata Lembik. Another recreational area is Pulau Chekas or Chekas Island. This is an island in the middle of a river. The area is popular with the locals who come for picnicking. Also not too far from Raub is Bentong, Fraser's Hill and the Genting Highlands
